Black History 365 Sub Plan: Benjamin Banneker: Time, Astronomy, And Mathematical Thinking | Middle School Math | 60-Minute Lesson

This Black History 365 one-day sub plan introduces middle school students to Benjamin Banneker, a Black mathematician, astronomer, inventor, writer, and almanac maker. Students learn how Banneker used mathematical thinking to study time, astronomy, patterns, and the natural world while practicing elapsed time, pattern recognition, data interpretation, and written reasoning.

Designed for a 60-minute class period, this resource requires minimal teacher guidance and is ideal for substitute days, emergency lesson plans, Black History Month, math enrichment, STEM connections, astronomy units, or year-round culturally responsive instruction.
